About Bellydance

Belly dance is an ancient form of dance, originating in the Middle East.  A social dance, it was a way for women to celebrate events together, particularly rites of passage and childbirth.  In more modern times a common misconception formed that dance style was meant to be risqué and suggestive.  This stereotype of belly dance is at odds with the truth of the dance form—it is an empowering dance meant to celebrate the feminine form.

In recent times, belly dance has become a popular form of both entertainment and physical activity.  Many styles have emerged, from folkloric gypsy to upbeat Egyptian cabaret to American Tribal.  It is a beautiful, fluid dance form that can be enjoyed by women of all ages and sizes.
